Digital Desk: In the midst of the Israel-Hamas war, a second flight carrying 235 Indian nationals, including two infants, safely touched down at Delhi Airport on Saturday. This successful evacuation mission comes on the heels of another flight that brought 212 Indian nationals home just yesterday, as tensions flared between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
The evacuation operation, dubbed 'Operation Ajay,' was initiated by the Indian government on Thursday to facilitate the return of its citizens who had been living and working in Israel amid escalating violence. The decision came in the wake of brazen attacks by Hamas militants on Israeli towns on October 7.
The second flight, which departed at 11:02 p.m. local time, was received by MoS MEA Rajkumar Ranjan Singh at Delhi Airport. According to authorities, the government plans to continue evacuating its citizens tomorrow, ensuring their safe return.
The Indian Embassy in Israel has been actively coordinating these efforts, sending email notifications to registered Indian citizens about upcoming special flights. The first charter flight left Ben Gurion Airport in Israel late Thursday evening, carrying 211 adults and an infant. This major international hub in Israel is situated on the northern outskirts of the city of Lod.
All Indian nationals wishing to return to India are required to register with the mission's database, with the government covering the cost of their return. In addition to the evacuation, the Indian Embassy in Israel has established a helpline to assist Indian citizens and provide support for Indian companies operating in the region.
With approximately 18,000 Indian nationals residing in Israel, including caregivers, students, IT professionals, and diamond traders, the Indian government remains committed to ensuring their safe return during these challenging times.
