PM's Advisor Amarjeet Sinha Resigns, third exit from PMO since 2019

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special advisor, Amarjeet Sinha, one of the top bureaucrats in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), has resigned as a special advisor. Amarjeet Sinha, a 1983-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, had superannuated in 2019 as the Rural Development Secretary in the Government of India. In February 2020, Sinha, appointed as an advisor to PM Modi for two years. But on Monday, he resigned seven months before his tenure.

Amarjeet Sinha used to handle all social sector schemes and policies. However, sources could not confirm the specific reason behind Sinha's exit from the PMO well before the end of his tenure. The official website of PMO now lists only retired IAS officer Bhaskar Khulbe as a special advisor to PM Modi. It was the third high-profile exit from PMO since 2019.

Principal secretary Nripendra Mishra had resigned just after the NDA returned to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. PK Sinha, another advisor, was next in line to leave the PMO. Sinha had been appointed a special advisor following his retirement as Union Cabinet Secretary. At present, IAS officer PK Mishra is the principal secretary to PM Narendra Modi.
