Digital Desk: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the new Mopa airport in Goa would be named after the late Manohar Parrikar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mopa International Airport in Goa today intending to improve air connectivity and tourism in the coastal state.
Parrikar was a well-known politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa who served as the state's Chief Minister from 14 March 2017 till his death. He had previously served as Goa's Chief Minister from 2000 to 2005 and again from 2012 to 2014. He was also the Defence Minister from October 2014 until March 2017.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also kicked off the sixth Vande Bharat train on the Nagpur-Bilaspur route. PM Modi purchased a metro ticket after kicking off the new Vande Bharat Express and launching phase I of the Nagpur Metro. The PM engaged with students and locals while on a bike.
The PM will also dedicate projects worth more than Rs 75,000 crore in Nagpur. He will also dedicate to the nation the "Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Chandrapur" and the "Center for Research, Management, and Control of Hemoglobinopathies, Chandrapur."

1| The PM lay the groundwork for Mopa Airport in November 2016. It will be the state's second airport; Goa's first airport is located in Dabolim.
2| Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on the occasion, "Two airports have been created in a city for the first time in the country. Under the previous administration, not a single airport was built in a single year. The development will occur wherever there is a dual engine government."
3| Airlines such as Indigo and GoFirst have already announced plans to begin 168 and 42 flights from the new airport the following month, respectively.
4| The government is making this effort to offer excellent transportation and infrastructure throughout the country.
5| For approximately 2,870 crores, the airport was built with the concept of sustainable infrastructure in mind. Prime Minister Modi set the groundwork for the airport in November 2016.
6| "The development of a Greenfield airport at Mopa, Goa is a prestigious project being constructed by the State Government of Goa under public-private partnership (PPP) mode at a revised sanctioned project cost of 2,870 crores," the government stated in an official statement.
7| The new international airport is located in northern Goa, around 35 kilometres from Panaji, the state capital.
