PM Modi to visit 'The Elephant Whisperers' stars Bomman and Bellie during his visit to Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

Digital Desk: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to embark on a three-state tour of South India this week. As per reports, the PM will be visiting the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu on April 9th, where he will interact with Bomman and Bellie, the indigenous couple who recently gained fame with their heartwarming story featured in the Oscar-winning documentary, 'The Elephant Whisperers'.

The officials have informed that tight security measures have been implemented in and around the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, in anticipation of the Prime Minister's visit. The roads leading to the reserve are being given a new look, and an exclusive helipad is being prepared at Singara for PM Modi to land. Additionally, nearly 30 electric poles are being installed to provide electricity in tribal areas, and the swimming area for the elephants is being modernized.

Moreover, PM is expected to visit Theppakadu elephant camp in MTR on his way from Chennai to Mysuru. He will be inaugurating the new integrated terminal of the Chennai International Airport between April 8th and 9th. The Prime Minister will also be visiting Telangana and Karnataka during his two-day visit.

The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 2023 Oscars held in March, becoming the first Indian film to win the prestigious prize. The film is streaming on Netflix and depicts the story of how Bomman and Bellie take care of an abandoned elephant infant named Raghu and the bond that develops between them and the animal.

It is to be noted that PM Modi's visit to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve will not only highlight the importance of wildlife conservation and indigenous people's involvement in preserving it, but it will also acknowledge the cinematic excellence of 'The Elephant Whisperers' and its inspiring protagonists.
