    Padma Shri Awardee Nanda Kishore Prusty passes away

    Bhubaneswar: Padma Shri awardee Nanda Kishore Prusty, popularly known as Nadma Sir, passed away today. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. 





    On November 28, Nanda Sir was admitted to the Sukinda Community Health Center (CHC) due to health issues. However, he was later shifted to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH), Jajpur, as his health condition worsened.





    On November 29 night, he was shifted to Tata Steel Medical Hospital in Jajpur for further treatment. He was sick for the past few days and suffered from fever, cough, and other old-age ailments.





    Nanda Prusty was admitted to the Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar on November 30, following he was tested Covid-19 positive.

    Nanda Kishore Prusty was a resident of Kantira village in Sukinda block. He was awarded Padma Shri on November 9 for his significant contribution in the field of Literature and education, and social service.





    Nanda Sir, 7-pass out has been educating children and adults of Kantira and nearby communities free of cost in a temporary shed for decades.





    Locals of his village sent their kids to Prusty’s “chatashali’ (non-formal school) before enrolling them in regular schools. The village admired him for his skilled art in teaching the fundamentals and basic mathematics like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
