Digital Desk: Aam Aadmit Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha, who was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for alleged misconduct and breach of privilege, changed his bio on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to 'Suspended Member of Parliament, India' on Saturday.
The AAP leader was suspended from the Upper House on Friday after being accused of forging the signatures of five MPs in a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Chadda has been suspended until the Privilege Committee submits its findings on the allegations.
Four Rajya Sabha MPs, Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M Thambidurai, and Narhari Amin, claimed that Chadha put their names in the Delhi Services Bill motion without their permission. The complaints of the MPs were then sent to the Privileges Committee by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
"...I suspend Raghav Chadha from the service of the Council until the Council has the benefit of the report by the Committee of Privileges," Dhankhar announced in the parliament on Friday.
Piyush Goyal, who is the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, moved the suspension motion against the AAP leader, saying Chadha's conduct was unbecoming of an MP and accusing him of breach of privilege.
In response to his suspension, Chadha asked in a video message on Friday whether it was because he "questioned the leaders of the world's largest party inside Parliament." He further claimed that the proceedings against him were an attempt by the BJP to quiet all those who questioned them.
"Am I guilty because I questioned the leaders of the biggest party in the world inside the Parliament or am I guilty because I put forth my point on the Delhi Services bill and demanded justice from them?" Chadha asked in a video posted on Twitter.
The AAP claimed that the allegations of forged signatures against Raghav Chadha were "false and politically motivated." The party accused the BJP of targeting Chadha because he spoke out against them.
