Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hold a rally at Kolar, Karnataka, on April 10 ahead of the  Karnataka Assembly elections.

Digital Desk: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Kerala's Wayanad on April 11 for the first time after his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. He will conduct a roadshow and make an address at a public rally during his visit.

On March 23, the Chief Judicial Magistrate H H Varma's court found the former Wayanad MP guilty of defamation and sentenced him to two years in jail for his remark about the "Modi surname" in Karnataka in 2019.

The issue relates to Rahul's remarks during a rally in Kolar, Karnataka, in April 2019. Rahul made a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by asking, "How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?"

As a result of his conviction, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP on March 24, as per a Supreme Court ruling in 2013.

According to the judgement, if found guilty and given a term of two years or more, any MP or MLA will be automatically removed from office.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hold a rally at Kolar, Karnataka, on April 10 ahead of the  Karnataka Assembly elections.

A day later, on April 11, he is scheduled to go to Wayanad, Kerala, his former Parliamentary constituency

Elections for the Karnataka Assembly are scheduled for May 10, and results will be counted on May 13.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other top party figures went to the Gujarat court earlier on Monday to appeal against his March 23 conviction in a criminal defamation case related to his "Modi surname" remark.

He was accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, the leader of their party, and his sister. The Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh also attended the court with her.

Rahul Gandhi was granted bail in the defamation case by the Surat court in Gujarat pending the outcome of his appeal.
