Digital Desk: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi's bio on X (Twitter) was modified just hours after he was reinstated as a Member of Parliament by the Lok Sabha Secretariat again. Rahul Gandhi, who was disqualified as a legislator from Kerala's Wayanad following his conviction in a defamation case in 2019, has now re-added 'Member of Parliament' to his profile.
The Lok Sabha secretariat announced on August 7 that Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as a Lok Sabha member had been lifted. Hours later, Rahul Gandhi arrived in Parliament as an MP to join the ongoing Monsoon session.
Notably, his Lok Sabha membership was reinstated on August 4 when the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a 2019 defamation case stemming from his 'Modi' surname assertions. Gujarat court found Rahul Gandhi guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison for remarks he made during a political rally in Kolar in 2019.
The Supreme Court delayed his conviction, allowing him to run for the Lok Sabha, and stated that the Surat court had no grounds for inflicting the maximum term on Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison by a Surat court on March 23. He was dismissed as a Lok Sabha MP the next day; he represented the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
