The incident, which occurred in the Park Laureate Society in Noida's Sector 108, was captured on CCTV and has garnered significant attention.
The incident unfolded when Gupta objected to three people carrying their pet dog inside the society's lift without a muzzle. A verbal dispute ensued, escalating in the confined space of the elevator. In the CCTV footage, the woman involved can be seen snatching Gupta's mobile phone and throwing it aside, leading to his alleged retaliation with multiple slaps.
According to reports, Gupta had entered the lift and noticed the pet dog standing without a muzzle. As he began filming the incident during his argument with the dog's owner, the altercation escalated rapidly when the phone was snatched.
The commotion attracted the woman's husband to the scene, who, in turn, reportedly slapped Gupta. The situation became more chaotic before security officers intervened to separate the two men and restore order.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene following the incident, but both parties reportedly reached a settlement, and no formal case has been filed. However, the police have stated that they will continue investigating the matter.
This dispute highlights a growing issue of conflicts over pets within housing societies in Noida. In a similar incident that occurred in July, another Noida resident was involved in a dispute with her society's residents over her refusal to muzzle her pet dog.
Noida Authority released new pet guidelines last year, which require pet owners to register their dogs. Additionally, if a pet injures a person, the pet owner is liable for a fine of Rs 10,000 and responsible for covering the injured party's treatment expenses, in accordance with these guidelines.
As disputes over pets continue to rise in Noida, the incident involving the retired IAS officer has ignited discussions on the need for clear guidelines and effective conflict resolution mechanisms within housing societies to address such issues.
