The Adani Group denies the allegations and maintains that it complies with all legal and disclosure requirements.
Digital Desk: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition Friday asking for a directive to the Centre to form a committee under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge to look into and investigate the allegations made in the Hindenburg Research report against the business conglomerate run by industrialist Gautam Adani.
On Thursday, the petition's attorney, Vishal Tiwari, asked that the case be listed urgently before a bench presided over by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud.
Tiwari informed the panel, which was made up of Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala as well, that a separate appeal filed on the matter is slated to be heard on February 10.
He pleaded with the bench to hear both his and the other plea on Friday.
In his public interest lawsuit (PIL), Tiwari also requested instructions on how to form a special committee to oversee the sanctioning of loans to large corporations totaling more than Rs 500 crore.
Another PIL was submitted last week by attorney M. L. Sharma to the Supreme Court asking for the prosecution of short seller Nathan Anderson of the US company Hindenburg Research and his associates in India and the US for allegedly taking advantage of unsuspecting investors and the "artificial crashing" of the market value of Adani Group's stock.
Following a series of accusations from Hindenburg Research, including share-price manipulation and illegal transactions, the Adani Group equities have suffered on the exchanges.
The Adani Group denies the allegations and maintains that it complies with all legal and disclosure requirements.
