Digital Desk: Ranjit Savarkar, Veer Savarkar's grandson, has threatened to file an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi unless he "apologizes for his statement about Savarkar."

"I'll submit an FIR against Rahul Gandhi if he doesn't apologize for his comment about Savarkar. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party have attacked Veer Savarkar previously. It is regrettable that he continues to repeat this rather than expressing regret," Ranjit Savarkar said.

"I had also urged Uddhav Thackeray to demand an apology from Rahul Gandhi for disrespecting Savarkar. Veer Savarkar was the target of derogatory remarks when Uddhav Thackeray was the chief minister, but he did nothing," said Ranjit Savarkar.

"I have already filed two complaints against Rahul Gandhi at the Dadar police station. Five years previously, he had called VD Savarkar "deshdrohi." I'm checking the summons that the court ordered the police station to serve on Rahul Gandhi. His criticism of Savarkar during the Bharat Jodo Yatra led to the second lawsuit. I'll file a report once more at this point. Savarkar's image shouldn't be continually tarnished, so we must find a solution. We have to deal with it in court. There is no historical proof that Savarkar had voiced regret before the British Raj," he added.

A few days ago, in response to a query at a press conference about whether he should seek an apology for his comments in the UK and the Modi surname, the Congress leader said, "My name is not Savarkar, my surname is Gandhi and Gandhi did not apologize to anyone."

Rahul Gandhi was challenged on Monday by Savarkar's grandson to show evidence of Savarkar apologizing to British authorities. In reaction to Rahul Gandhi's Savarkar remark, Ranjit Savarkar called Rahul Gandhi's actions "childish."

This was not the first time Rahul Gandhi brought up Savarkar's apology to the British. The Congress leader claimed during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that VD Savarkar used to write mercy applications to get free from the Andaman cellular jail and also accepted a pension from the British Raj.

He even asserted that Savarkar had helped the British during the fight for independence.

On March 23, a Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison in a 2019 criminal defamation case for his remark, "Why do all thieves have Modi surnames?" Following this Gandhi was deemed ineligible to serve in the Lok Sabha.
