Prime Minister Modi delivered his Independence Day speech to the country from the Red Fort in New Delhi for the 10th time. In his last Independence Day speech before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi repeatedly referred to the people of India as "parivarjan" (family members), saying that he will address the country from the same location next year to talk about the development of the promises he made to the electorate.
"Next year, on August 15 from this same
Red Fort, I will list out the progress achieved by the nation and sing paeans to your strength, your resolve, and your success with greater confidence," Prime Minister Modi said during his I-Day speech, donning a multicoloured bandhani print turban.
"The promise of change brought me here, and my performance brought me here once more. The next five years will witness unheard-of growth, making this a wonderful opportunity to fulfill India's goal of becoming a developed country by 2047," according to the prime minister.
The general elections for the next year are set for April or May.
PM Modi claimed he had promised the country he would bring about change in 2014.
"You placed your trust in me. I made an effort to earn your trust. Over the past five years, I've gained trust because of the promises I made. I had pledged to transform, reform, and perform for you. I have worked diligently and with pride for the country," Prime Minister stated.
He stated the three factors—demography, democracy, and diversity—can fulfill all of India's dreams and help the nation realise its potential.
