Aftab Poonawala allegedly contacted the other lady, a psychologist, on Bumble, the same dating app where he had originally met her in 2019, according to reports, while her body was still in the refrigerator after he had slain her.
Digital Desk: Aaftab Amin Poonawala allegedly used a variety of techniques to hide his live-in partner's death, including remaining active on Shraddha Walkar's social media accounts and disposing of her body parts over several days.
But eventually, he ran out of luck and the police arrived at his home.
Aftab Poonawala allegedly contacted the other lady, a psychologist, on Bumble, the same dating app where he had originally met her in 2019, according to reports, while her body was still in the refrigerator after he had slain her.
However, noting that Walkar's body was in the refrigerator, this woman was not the only one who had been to the house. After killing Walkar, several people visited the residence, including several of his friends, food delivery people, and many others. Poonawala had a physical relationship with several women he met on the dating app.
In May, the couple moved into the Mehrauli house. On the 18th of that month, they got into a fight, and Poonawala tried to shut her mouth with his hand. Police claimed that he later strangulated her.
The next day, he went out and bought a saw and a 300-liter refrigerator, getting ideas from the American crime drama "Dexter."
On May 20, he reportedly cut her body into 35 pieces and stored them in the refrigerator.
Poonawala had earlier worked as a chef and studied hotel management. He had received two weeks of training in meat-chopping techniques, which he used to chop Walkar's body.
He cut her body for two days, according to an official.
According to the police, Poonawala would cram the pieces into the refrigerator's deep freezer and place the remainder in the bottom tray. He would take the frozen pieces after some time and freeze the ones remaining in the tray.
To cover the smell, he also used room fresheners and incense sticks.
He used to take the chopped pieces, put them in polythene bags, and take them to the forest in a backpack. "At around 2 a.m., he would leave into the bush and come back a few hours later. He did this a total of twenty days "explained the official.
Poonawala is described by the police as "sharp-minded," and while knowing Hindi, he felt more comfortable responding to questions in English.
On a dating website, Poonawala and Walkar connected. They fell in love after they started working for the same call centre in Mumbai. However, because they were from different religious backgrounds, their families opposed the relationship, which led the duo to leave the business centre.
They flew to Himachal Pradesh later arrived in Delhi. They first spent a day at a hotel in Paharganj before relocating to a hostel in Saidulajab, south Delhi.
They moved into the Chhattarpur Pahadi house on May 15.
According to the police, their relationship soured soon after they moved into the south Delhi house, and they began to have suspicions about one the other's affairs with other people.
Poonawala allegedly continued to stay in the same apartment and use online apps to purchase food even after allegedly killing Walkar, according to the police.
After moving in with Poonawala, Walkar lost contact with her family, but she continue to use Instagram to contact with her friends.
Up until June 9, Poonawala used the app to pretend to be Walkar after she was reportedly killed and chat with her friends.
Her friends informed her family when her status stayed dormant for a while, and the family then reported it to the police.
The FIR states that the victim's mother and father divorced in 2016. The mother passed away a few years ago.
Additionally, it was stated that Walkar had previously told her mother that Poonawala had been abusing her. She called her father and told him about her mother's passing around 15 to 20 days later. Later, she even got to meet him in person.
In the FIR, the victim's father was mentioned "He apologised to her when I requested her to leave Poonawala and go home, and she accompanied him when I urged her to do so. I stopped talking to her for a while since she didn't listen to me."
Ankit Chauhan, Additional DCP-I for the South district, said that the victim's father called Poonawala one day and found that the pair had broken up a while before.
The father reported his daughter missing after being unable to reach her, Chauhan said.
Mumbai Police located her last known location as Delhi after receiving the report. They also called Poonawala, whose contradicting claims raised suspicion and led them to contact Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police received the case file from the Mumbai Police on November 7. They claimed Poonawala was dating a different woman and working at a contact centre in Gurugram.
His landlord asserts that the residence was assigned after tenant verification.
