Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away at the age of 92 on February 6 in Mumbai, will be the subject of music and performing arts course offered by
Allahabad University (AU).
The course will include her achievement, struggles, and life history.
In a press conference the HOD of Allahabad University (Music and performing arts) Prof Vidyadhar Prasad Mishra, informed that a proposal to include the life history of Lata Mangeshkar has been graphed and will be launched in the AU music and performing arts curriculum of the University in the five years integrated course under the New Education Policy(NEP) 2020.

Moreover, a few other legendary Singer’s names that have been listed to be included in the course study,are Bhimsen Joshi, Alla Rakha Khan, Bismillah Khan, and Pt Jasraj.
A number of well-known Indian and western musicians are discussed in the curriculum being taught to UG and PG students.
Nevertheless, as per the provisions of the NEP, there will be a focus on Indian artists, both in vocal and instrumental music. It is referred to as life sketches of prominent musicians," Prof Mishra explained.
A special focus would also be placed on local artists, who, despite their immense talent, often remained unnoticed, while their disciples became famous, he said.
Names like Ramashrey Jha, the guru of famous classical singer Shubha Mudgal (who was associated with AU's department of music), Bholanath Bhatt, Bhola Nath Prasanna.
