Digital Desk: The Akal Takht issued a strong statement condemning the Bhagwant Mann government and the central government for the Punjab Police crackdown on the separatist preacher, Amritpal Singh, asking why similar action is not implemented against "those who demand Hindu Rashtra."

Giani Harpreet Singh, the Akal Takht jathedar, gave the state government a 24-hour deadline to release Sikh youths detained during the crackdown against the separatist preacher. He was addressing a gathering of Sikh organizations comprised of scholars, lawyers, journalists, religious and social leaders to address the situation in Punjab.

The Sikhs' highest authority is the Akal Takht, and the Jathedar is their top spokesperson.

In response to a question about why the National Security Act was used against those arrested for reportedly backing Singh and his demand for Khalistan, he stated, "There are lakhs who demand Hindu Rashtra. Those who call for Hindu Rashtra ought to be arrested as well. Additionally, they need to be arrested under the NSA."

Chief Minister Mann stated that he has directed the state police to release those detained under preventive detention if they are not found to be engaged in any anti-national activity. However, he warned that anyone attempting to disturb the tranquility would face harsh punishment.

According to Punjab Police, 197 of the 353 people detained for questioning have been released.

The Akal Takht jathedar has warned against any violent protests and stated that if the arrested youth are not freed, "we must not become aggressive, but must respond diplomatically." He stated that they will petition the Supreme Court for the immediate release of those detained by the police.

He has stated that the Akal Takht will be taking up this issue across the nation and around the globe after Baisakhi. "We'll tell them what's happening to us," he vowed.

He has also attacked news channels that allegedly defame Sikhs. Alleging that a "narrative" is being established through investigation institutions and news channels, the Akal Takht jathedar said, "The propagation of hatred done by news channels. We must book the news channels. Are you a terrorist?

Earlier, Akal Takht had asked Amritpal Singh to surrender to the police and assist with the investigation. Further, the Akal Takht jathedar questioned the police's abilities, asking why they had not yet been successful in apprehending him.
