    UP CM Yogi Adityanath to flag off free Distribution of phones, tabs to Students today

    Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government will start the distribution of free tablets and smartphones to 1 crore students today. The event has been organized by CM Yogi Adityanath led UP government, to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.





    The distribution will kick-start by giving out 60,000 smartphones and 40,000 tablets to 1 lakh beneficiaries.





    Following the distribution event, CM Yogi Adityanath will also launch the Digi Shakti Portal and Digi Shakti Adhyayan App. The app will be pre-installed on all smartphones and tablets that will be distributed today.

    Speaking on the event, a government spokesperson said that a large number of students will be participating in the event today. The scheme aims to ensure uninterrupted flow of study content even in remote areas of the state.





    The free smartphones, tablets distribution scheme was announced by CM Yogi Adityanath earlier this year and cleared by the cabinet.





    The new app will be used by the concerned educational institute or university to provide study material to students, along with information about employment related schemes and other welfare schemes especially for the youths of the state.





    The Yogi Adityanath government is also planning to sign a contract with Infosys for the company to provide over 3,900 programmes related to education and employment for the youth, free of cost.





    “The government has made elaborate plans to empower the youth of UP. Through smartphones and tablets, the youth will be provided with excellent study material for competitive exams and information on employment opportunities with which they will be able to become self-reliant,” added the spokesperson.

    The distribution of smartphones and tablets will take place in two phases. The first phase of distribution will include youth in the final year of their studies. Following this, distribution programmes will be conducted at district level and the phones and tablets will then be distributed among them.





    Youths who have not yet applied for the scheme can do so through the Digi Shakti portal from December 25 onwards.
