Digital Desk: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during her Budget presentation in the Lok Sabha on July 23 that the Union Budget 2024-25 allocates over Rs 3 lakh crore for initiatives aimed at empowering women and fostering women-led development. This marks Ms. Sitharaman’s seventh budget speech, setting a record. It also represents the first budget of the third NDA government following their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing women's participation in economic growth, Sitharaman emphasized that the budgetary allocation underscores their role in economic development.
In efforts to boost women's workforce participation, the government plans to collaborate with industries to establish hostels for working women and creche facilities. This partnership is also expected to introduce skill development programs tailored for women and provide direct market access to enterprises led by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
To ensure social justice, Sitharaman stated that the government will adopt a saturation approach to reach all eligible beneficiaries through various schemes. The primary objective is to achieve inclusive human resource development, a key priority of the Union Budget 2024-25.
Sitharaman affirmed, "Our government is committed to comprehensive and inclusive development of all sections of society, particularly farmers, youth, women, and the underprivileged." She underscored the importance of effectively implementing schemes that promote economic activities among craftsmen, artisans, SHGs, SC/ST and women entrepreneurs, and street vendors, including initiatives like PM Vishwakarma, PM SVAnidhi, NRLM, and Stand-UP India.
