Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of unwavering support from the central government amidst the state grappling with severe flooding triggered by incessant rains. In a recent conversation, Shah underscored the proactive efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in conducting rescue operations and providing relief to affected residents.

Talking to X, Shah wrote, "On account of the heavy rains, a flood-like situation has occurred in Assam. Spoke with Assam CM Shri @himantabiswaJi about the ongoing situation. The NDRF and the SDRF are working on a war footing, providing relief and rescuing the victims. PM Shri @narendramodiJi stands firmly with the people of Assam and is committed to providing all possible assistance to the state in these challenging times."

The flood situation in Assam has intensified over the past month, causing widespread devastation across 30 districts. The aftermath has been grim, with loss of life, extensive damage to infrastructure, disrupted transportation routes, agricultural fields submerged, and displacement of over 2.42 million people. Dhubri district stands out as one of the worst-hit areas, affecting 775,721 individuals and submerging vast swathes of agricultural land, totaling 63,490.97 hectares.

The impact on wildlife has also been severe, with reports of 92 animal casualties and ongoing rescue efforts in Kaziranga National Park. The Brahmaputra River has surpassed danger levels in multiple locations, exacerbating the flooding in districts such as Cachar, Kamrup, Goalpara, and others.

In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed the government's steadfast commitment to Assam, pledging comprehensive assistance to mitigate the challenges faced by its people. Amit Shah's assurance of full support underscores the collaborative efforts between the state and central authorities to manage the ongoing emergency effectively.

As Assam navigates through this calamity, coordinated efforts between NDRF, SDRF, and local administration remain pivotal in providing immediate relief, restoring essential services, and initiating long-term rehabilitation measures for affected communities. The resilience and solidarity shown in times of adversity exemplify the resolve to rebuild and safeguard Assam's communities against natural disasters.
