    Villagers hire shooters to kill monkeys, probe underway

    Chhattisgarh: Local’s in Kothar village in Kabirdham district, Chhattisgarh reportedly hired a private shooter to kill a herd of monkeys, a forest official said.   





    “After receiving the information, the forest department sent forest rangers and officials to the village.” said a forest official.  





    Later, a team was formed for investigation; the team first reached Kothar village and recovered the carcass of a monkey. Further, they recovered another carcass in Birkona and found a monkey injured. After the post-mortem, pellets were retrieved from the corpses, added the officer. 





    The shooter, a resident of Kosmanda village, escaped from the village. However, he was caught by the forest department team. 





    An air gun was recovered from the possession of the accused with which he shot the monkeys.  





    While speaking to ANI, Forest Divisional Officer Dilraj Prabhakar stated, “The villagers had hired a shooter to kill the monkeys. The shooter is a resident of Kosmanda village. He was absconding, but he was caught by our team and will be presented in court. 





    “An air gun has been recovered from the possession of the accused.” added Prabhakar. 





    Reportedly, the Forest department teams are reaching different villages to make them aware that killing monkeys is illegal under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, and there is a provision of legal action against it.





    It is a developing story; further investigation is underway.
