White House to Welcome PM Modi with 21-Gun Salute

Digital Desk: US National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby stated at a press conference on Monday (local time) that the US is looking forward to hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He remarked on the "significant defense partnership" and "terrific cooperation" between the US and India in Quad. When asked if US President Joe Biden was committed to hosting a joint press conference with PM Modi during his visit, Kirby responded, "I don't believe that the full agenda has been fleshed out for the state visit, but we are very much looking forward to having Prime Minister Modi here."

 

 

"As you are aware, the US and India have a strong defense relationship and work very well together inside the Quad and throughout the Indo-Pacific. There is a great deal to discuss. We're excited about the visit," Kirby added.

From June 21 to June 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. PM Modi's arrival is keenly anticipated by the Indian community in the US. More than 7000 Indian Americans intend to be present on the South Lawns of the White House on June 22 when US President Biden and the First Lady welcome PM Modi to the country amid a 21-gun salute.

PM Modi will also speak to the CEOs and chairmen of some of the major US corporations At the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington. PM Modi will speak to a joint session of the US Congress on June 22 during his visit. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate extended the invitation to make such a historic address, displaying their respect and support for Prime Minister Modi across party lines in the US. He will be the first Indian prime minister to twice address a joint meeting of the US Congress.

 

The President and First Lady's letter of invitation complimented PM Modi's prior historic speech, delivered seven years ago, for helping to strengthen ties between the two countries. In its message, the White House underlined that it was a chance to reaffirm the two nations' close and lasting alliance. PM Modi thanked the government for the opportunity and said he was looking forward to speaking at the joint session. Having a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership with the US, based on democratic ideals, strong people-to-people ties, and a steadfast commitment to world peace and prosperity, is something that Prime Minister Modi emphasised in his address.
