Digital Desk: The Yamuna River in Delhi continues to cause concerns as it overflowed yet again, with the water level recorded at 205.45 meters at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. The danger mark for the river stands at 205.33 meters, prompting authorities to remain vigilant amid the flood-like situation.

A day earlier, on Monday, the water level in the Yamuna had reached 206.56 meters, indicating the severity of the situation. As a precautionary measure, announcements were made by the administration on Sunday, urging people in low-lying areas near the floodplains to vacate for their safety.

The national capital and its adjoining regions are grappling with the consequences of rising water levels. The Yamuna's water level has been hovering around the danger mark of 205.33 meters for the past few days, following its record-high level of 208.66 meters on July 13.

The surge in the river's water level is attributed to the discharge of water from the Hathnikund Barrage, a result of heavy rainfall in certain areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

While the water level had been gradually receding after reaching its peak on July 13, there have been marginal fluctuations over the last two-three days. On July 18, the water level dropped below the danger mark at 8 p.m., providing temporary relief after eight days of flowing above the threshold.

However, due to the recent rise in the water level, various places in Delhi are experiencing water-logging and flood-like situations, affecting daily life and posing challenges for authorities.

In response to the recurrent floods, the Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman, Saurabh Bhardwaj, conducted an inspection of the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on Sunday. He emphasized that the Delhi government has taken precautionary measures by constructing embankments and reinforcements at vulnerable spots to prevent floodwater from entering the water treatment plants.

The situation has also caught the attention of Home Minister Amit Shah, who held a discussion with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday. During their conversation, they addressed the water level in the Yamuna River in the national capital, highlighting the significance of coordinated efforts in managing the situation.

As the Yamuna River's water level remains a cause for concern, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to mitigate potential risks and provide support to affected communities. Residents are urged to exercise caution and cooperate with authorities during this critical period to ensure their safety and well-being.
