Adieu Dr. Manmohan Singh: Former PM cremated with full military honors

Digital desk : Sikh priests recited verses from the Gurbani before former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's cremation at the Nighambodh Ghat. President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, several Union Ministers, Congress leaders, Dr. Singh's family members, and others were present at the crematorium in New Delhi.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's mortal remains left the AICC headquarters to the Nighambodh Ghat on Saturday. Congress leaders and co-workers paid their homage to the deceased soul at the AICC headquarters.  

The eldest daughter of Dr. Singh, Upinder Singh lit the funeral pyre at the Nigambodh Ghat crematorium. 

World leaders have paid their tributes to one of the great politicians of the country. Offering his condolences, Singapore PM Lawrence Wong said that Dr. Singh had reshaped the economy of India. His vision and determination set the stage for India's remarkable growth. He emerged as a key regional and global player during his political career.

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences in a statement saying that Dr. Singh was an outstanding statesmen. He made major contributions to strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Russia.

Sharing an X post, French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed his sadness and said that India lost a great man and France a true friend.

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres in a statement said that India had strengthened its collaboration with the UN under Dr. Singh's leadership.

Mauritius has also announced its decision to fly its flag at half-mast at all the government organizations. To remember the departed soul of Dr. Singh, neighboring country Bhutan organized a special prayer.

PM Modi paid his tribute to Dr. Singh in the crematorium and posted on X that the latter's service will always be cherished.

Dr. Singh who passed away at the age of 92 in AIIMS on Thursday night had also served as the 15th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He was the Finance Minister between 1991-95 under the Congress-led UPA government.
