After failing the Agniveer recruitment, a 23-year-old from Uttarakhand commits suicide.

Digital Desk: According to a senior official, a 23-year-old man from the
Uttarakhand region of Pauri Garhwal committed himself on Wednesday night after
being rejected from the state's ongoing Agniveer recruitment.

After failing to be chosen on his previous attempt, the deceased returned
home from an ongoing Agniveer recruiting rally in Kotdwar organised by the Army
Recruiting Office, Lansdowne, on Wednesday, according to Satpuli sub-divisional
    magistrate (SDM), Sandeep Kumar.

    According to him, the
victim was depressed and had previously failed two efforts to get accepted into
    the army for medical grounds.

    The victim, according
to the SDM's quotation of the family's testimony, returned from the Agniveer
recruitment rally and ate a proper supper while interacting with his family
sparingly before retiring to his room to sleep.

    He claimed that when
his family members entered the door the following morning, they saw him hanging
    from the ceiling fan.

    Even when they
performed a panchnama, the family sent the administration a letter requesting
that there be no post-mortem, he claimed.

    Young people from
various regions of the state have been venting their frustration on social
media in the midst of the current recruiting for Agniveers, alleging neglect of
the eligibility requirements that were outlined in the recruitment rallies.

    Satpal Maharaj, a
cabinet minister, recently asked Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, to look
into the situation in a letter. The minister claimed in a video message that
the Agniveer recruitment rallies throughout the state do not adhere to the
requirements for height and duration to complete the 1,600-meter race.

    In the letter, he
stated that competitors will have five minutes instead of five minutes and
forty seconds to finish the 1,600-meter event.

    According to the fixed
eligibility standard of 163 cm, only candidates whose height is 170 cm or
higher will be given consideration for selection.

    Naresh Bansal, an MP
for Uttarakhand in the Rajya Sabha, brought up the same issue in a letter to Rajnath
Singh, the defence minister, on Friday.

    In the meantime,
Congress state president Karan Mahara criticised the Modi administration,
claiming that young people without jobs were left with no choice but to
    participate in Agniveer recruitments.

    At Kotdwar in the
Pauri Garhwal district on August 17, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami
announced the launch of the Agniveer recruitment programme under the Agnipath
plan and promised that the state government will offer jobs to the Agniveers
upon completion of their four-year service.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yaswant Singh in Pauri
Garhwal said that he had no information of the situation when questioned.

If I hadn't already acquired the information, it might have
occurred under the purview of the tax police, he claimed.

According to Lakhan Singh, the house officer at Satpuli
police station, the incident happened under the purview of the revenue police,
and they don't know anything about it.

According to the district magistrate's directives, the case might
also be transferred from revenue police to regular police in the event of a
    major crime, he continued.
