Desk: After conducting searches at Batla House in New Delhi, the National
Investigating Agency (NIA) announced on Sunday that it has detained an accused
for allegedly being involved in the activities of the Islamic State (ISIS)
module case.
According to the NIA, the suspect,
identified as Mohsin Ahmad, was taken into custody on Saturday. Ahmad, a
resident of Patna, is said to have been a "active member of the ISIS"
by the investigating agency. "He was detained for his involvement in
soliciting donations for ISIS from supporters both inside and outside of India.
He was transferring these cash in the form of bitcoin to Syria and other
locations in order to support ISIS operations, according to the NIA.
"Today (06.08.2022), the NIA
searched the accused Mohsin Ahmad's home in Batla House, New Delhi, and then
detained him in connection with the case involving the internet and offline
activities of ISIS. The NIA registered the complaint on its own initiative on
June 25. The agency added that additional inquiries were ongoing.
The NIA had earlier this week nabbed
three people in Karnataka for their alleged connections to ISIS handlers. The
anti-terror agency conducted a statewide raid last Sunday that included the
detentions in Karnataka.
The raids in Karnataka took place in
the Tumakuru district and two locations in the Bhatkal area of the Uttara
Kannada district. State police officials claimed that the NIA had requested
assistance from the local police in two cases.
Sajid Makrani, a Maharashtrian, was named as the suspect.
According to authorities, he is a third-year student at a Tumkuru unani
college.
13 suspects' homes in six states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar,
Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. On June 25, the NIA suo-motoly filed
the case in Delhi under sections 153A and 153B of the IPC as well as sections
18, 18B, 38, 39, and 40 of the UA (P) Act.
