Digital Desk: Amit Shah, the Union home minister, attacked Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday for what he called the "biggest extortion racket" about electoral bonds. Rahul Gandhi and Congress party leaders repeatedly criticised the government over the electoral bonds calling it a “hafta vasooli” scheme.
“Gandhi also got ₹1,600 crore. He should explain where he got that ‘hafta vasooli’ from. We say it is a transparent donation but if he says it is vasooli, he should give details," the minister said at a summit hosted by CNN News 18.
The minister responded that the INDIA bloc would "not be able to show its face" when asked if the Bharatiya Janata Party would release the list of donors. Several political parties disclosed last week where the money coming from and how much was donated. The BJP had collected ₹6,061 crore (47.5% of the total redeemed value), the Trinamool Congress had received ₹1,610 crore (12.6%), and the Congress had received ₹1,422 crore (11.1%), as per the EC statistics.
"There is an allegation that we have received a lot of donations. This is completely false. We have got ₹6,200 crore, whereas 'Indi Alliance' led by Rahul Gandhi has received more than ₹6,200 crore. While we have 303 seats, we have governments in 17 states, how many seats do the 'Indi Alliance' have?" the Union home minister said, quoted by Hindustan Times.
The Congress intensified its attack on the Center on Monday over the electoral bonds issue, claiming that 21 companies that are under investigation by the CBI, ED, or IT have given through electoral bonds and accusing the Modi government of "hafta vasuli".
According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, a growing number of instances reveal the true scope of the "electoral bond scam" every day.
Rahul Gandhi in many instances called the Electoral Bond a “Hafta Vasooli” scheme, on which Amit Shah replied in an interview that the BJP is transparent however, he said that Congress will be shocked by BJP’s revelation of the data.
