    Digital Desk: In a major setback for the common man, Amul has raised milk prices for the third time this year. Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited MD RS Sodhi announced on Saturday that full cream milk and buffalo milk prices have been increased by Rs 2 per litre in all states except Gujarat.


    With this, a litre of full cream milk will now cost Rs 63, up from Rs 61 per litre.


    The latest price increase comes two months after Amul raised the pricing of its Gold, Shakti, and Taaza milk brands by Rs 2 per litre in August. Prior to that, milk prices were hiked in March . On March 1, 2022, Amul raised the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre. Even back then, the company justified price increases by citing growing gasoline and diesel prices. Amul stated that the decision was made due to an increase in operating costs and milk production.


    GCMMF hiked milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in August in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra region of Gujarat, Delhi-national capital region, West Bengal, Mumbai, and all other markets where Amul sells fresh milk. Amul has raised the cost of its Gold, Shakti, and Taaza milk brands by Rs 2 per litre.


    Meanwhile, retail inflation in India jumped to a five-month high of 7.41 percent in September, up from 7.1% the previous month, and remained well above the RBI's upper tolerance zone for the ninth consecutive month. On the other hand, wholesale price index-based (WPI) inflation decreased to 10.70% in September from 12.41% in August 2022 and 11.8% in September last year.
