Aurangzeb severed many heads but can't shake our faith, PM Modi said on addressal at Red fort

This was one of the few occasions when Modi spoke to the nation from the Red Fort on a day other than Independence Day.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 400th Parkash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur at the Red Fort in New Delhi on Thursday. He defined the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib near the Red Fort as a symbol of Guru Tegh Bahadur's immortal sacrifice.

Modi also stated that India has never posed a threat to any country or society. It considers the entire world's welfare even during global conflicts, stating that the ideals of Sikh gurus steer the country.

The prime minister also issued a commemorative coin and postage stamp to mark the occasion.

Take a look at a few quoted speech lines by PM Modi while addressing the nation in Red fort:

Speaking about the sacrifice, Modi said, "In front of Aurangzeb's tyrannical thinking, Guru Tegh Bahadur became 'Hind di Chadar' and stood like a rock. Red Fort is a witness to the fact that even though Aurangzeb severed many heads, he could not shake our faith,"

Guru Tegh Bahadur's sacrifice has inspired many generations of India to live and die to protect the pride of their culture, for its honour and respect.

I am happy that today our country is moving forward with full devotion to the ideals of our gurus. On this virtuous occasion, I bow at the feet of all 10 gurus.

Modi also said that the government took steps to evacuate copies of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.

"Our government is making continuous efforts to link the holy places of pilgrimage connected to Sikh tradition," PM Modi said.
