The Government of India has launched a new campaign, 'Har Ghar Tiranga,' as citizens prepare to celebrate India's 75th Independence Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Indians to participate in the campaign by flying the National Flag in every home from August 13 to August 15.

The government amended the Flag Code of India 2022 to make it easier for citizens to access the National Flag. The Flag Code of India is a set of laws and conventions that govern the use, display, and hoisting of the Indian national flag, and it specifies how private, public, and government institutions must display the flag.

When is the national flag permitted to be flown?

The recent amendments made by the Government of India allowed the display of the national flag both day and night, but only if it is displayed in the open or a member of the public's home. Previously, the national flag could only be flown between the hours of sunrise and sunset.

Here are some guidelines for displaying the national flag at home:

1| The Tricolor should be prominently displayed and should hold the position of honor.

2|A flag that is damaged or disheveled should never be displayed. The National Flag should be in perfect condition at all times.

3|The saffron band of the Tricolour should never be at the bottom, and the Tricolour should never be exhibited reversed.

4|The national flag should not be saluted to anyone or anything.

5| No other flag or bunting should be placed higher, above, or next to the National Flag.

6|Nothing shall be placed on or above the flag mast, not even flowers, garlands, or symbols.

7|The National Flag shall not be displayed as a bunting, festoon, rosette, or in any other way for aesthetic purposes.

8| Under any circumstances or conditions, the National Flag should not touch the ground, floor, or trail in the water.

9| There should be no write-up on the flag.

What is the proper method for removing the national flag?

The national flag that has been harmed or aged must be completely disposed of in a private setting. Burning is one way to accomplish it, but you can also do it in any other way that respects its dignity.
