    Digital Desk: The International Chess Federation, or FIDE, which oversees international chess competitions, has nominated Indian chess legend, Viswanathan Anand, as its deputy president.

    Arkady Dvorkovich, the current president, won re-election for a second term.

    Anand, a five-time world champion, was on Dvorkovich's squad.

    Andrii Baryshpolets received 16 votes, compared to 157 for Dvorkovich. Five people abstained, and one vote was deemed invalid.

    The 44th Chess Olympiad is concurrent with the FIDE Congress, which is where the elections for the world chess organization took place.

    The most recent of Viswanathan Anand's five world championships was the world fast title in 2017.

    Dvorkovich had mentioned having Anand on his team before the elections.

    He stated, "I am really happy that Anand is standing for deputy president, the man said. He is a wonderful individual with a wonderful personality.  He has been a long-time friend."
