Clashes marred during Muharram procession in Bareilly, Varanasi

Hindu residents of Bareilly voiced their displeasure with the inclusion of a DJ in the tazia procession.

Digital Desk: On Tuesday, August 9, during Muharram processions in the Bareilly and Varanasi districts, members of two communities got into a fight and started throwing stones at each other, inflicting injuries on several people, according to the police.

When a DJ was used in the tazia parade in Bareilly, several members of the Hindu community in Majhoua hamlet, which is in the jurisdiction of Bhojipura police station, complained that a "new tradition" was being established.

They are accused of throwing stones, and those marching in the procession struck back. They claimed that some people were harmed during the brick batting.

SP Singh, Superintendent of Police (Crime), stated that a Muharram procession with a DJ was taking place in Majhua Gangapur village. "Members of one community objected, claiming that no DJ was ever heard during the Muharram procession. They opposed it, claiming it was a new tradition," he stated.

According to Singh, some members of the community engaged in brick batting during the protest, and in retaliation, those carrying out the process pelted stones and targeted the establishments of those opposing it. "Later, senior officers arrived and calmed the situation. "The DJ was removed by the police, and the procession was allowed to proceed," he stated.

Police and PAC have been deployed in response to the village's unrest. The police have stated that those who pelted stones will face severe consequences.

The district administration has stated unequivocally that no new traditions will be permitted. It has warned that those who start new traditions will face harsh consequences. "Those who participated in stone pelting are being investigated. The police have taken control of the situation "According to administration sources.
