Digital Desk: The Government of Punjab's Department of Water Resources has sent an official letter to all chief engineers, executive engineers, and superintending engineers in the state's water resources department urging that all bank accounts with HDFC Bank be closed.
An office memo was issued by the Principal Secretary of Water Resources on August 22, 2022. The copy has been submitted to the Principal Secretary of Finance, who has been asked to send instructions to all departments to shut their accounts with HDFC Bank because it has supposedly been noticed that the bank "never cooperates" when the government "needs their cooperation." The memo was sent to all administrative secretaries.
It was mentioned in the office memo, "Certain Executive Engineers (Drainage-cum-District Mining Officers) have brought to our attention that the HDFC Bank has provided certain bank guarantees to mining contractors. These mining contractors have failed to make payments to the state government, and when the Executive Engineers (Drainage-cum- District Mining Officers) approach the bank to encash the bank guarantee, HDFC Bank refuses to do so for one reason or another."
As a result, it has been decided that no bank accounts will be maintained in the HDFC Bank. Furthermore, if some of the employees had their salary accounts opened with HDFC Bank, they may be persuaded and requested, in the larger interest of the department, to close their accounts with HDFC Bank and open their salary accounts with any other bank of their choice.
