color:#252525">Digital Desk: The Vadodara City Police booked 96 people on
rioting and murder attempt charges on Tuesday after a communal clash broke out
in the city's Panigate area at around 1 a.m. due to a disagreement over
bursting firecrackers on Diwali. According to the police, stones were thrown
and a petrol bomb was thrown at a senior police official.

The FIR lodged at Panigate police station by Assistant
Sub Inspector Gopal Mangaldas states that the clash began over an altercation
regarding airborne firecrackers being fired from areas of both communities. The
clash turned violent around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, when mobs began pelting stones
from Kahar Mohalla and Nalbandwada Mohalla, two areas dominated by people from
two different communities, according to the FIR.
As per the FIR, a two-wheeler parked near the medical centre was
set on fire, and a petrol bomb was thrown from a home in the Nalbandwada area
with the "intention to kill police personnel."
color:#252525">According to a police statement issued Tuesday evening, 20 stone
pelters were identified and detained on the spot, while 26 others were booked
after being identified from CCTV footage.
The accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections
307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of an offense committed in pursuit of common object), 336 (rash or negligent act
endangering human life or personal safety), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive
substance with intent to destroy house), and 440 (mischief committed after
preparation to cause death).
