Digital Desk: The Congress party has called for a state-wide symbolic "Gujarat Bandh" between 8 am and noon on Saturday (September 10). According to a party official, the Gujarat Congress has called for a symbolic "bandh" in the state to protest against rising prices, corruption, and unemployment. At a news conference on August 26, Gujarat Congress in-charge Raghu Sharma made the same announcement.
The 'Gujarat Bandh' demonstration comes just days after the Congress party held its 'Mehengai pe Halla Bol' rally in the national capital last week.
In a statement released on Friday, Jagdish Thakor, the president of the Gujarat Congress, urged small vendors, associations, textile market workers, and traders to join the strike.
"Inflation, unemployment and corruption have skyrocketed under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 27-year rule in Gujarat. People are suffering. Instead of giving relief, the BJP government has imposed GST on food items such as milk, curd and paneer," said Thakor.
Thakor also asked party workers to ensure that no property was damaged during the 'Bandh' and that emergency services were available at all times.
Meanwhile, a Congress-backed union representing auto rickshaws in Ahmedabad said it would participate in the bandh.
"We are also affected by the price rise, especially the CNG rates. Autorickshaws will not ply on city roads from 8 am to 12 noon," Gujarat Auto Rickshaw Action Committee president Ashok Punjabi said.
