Mallikarjun Kharge, the newly elected president of the Indian National Congress, will take office on Wednesday at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi.

Digital Desk: Mallikarjun Kharge, the newly elected president of the Indian National Congress, will take office on Wednesday at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi.

The programme is open to all Congress Working Committee members, MPs, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, CLP leaders, past CMs, former State presidents, and other AICC office bearers.

The invitation was sent to all of the following parties by the organization's General Secretary, KC Venugopal.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Tuesday that he would also be honoured at the occasion.

"Mallikarjun Kharge will become the Congress party's national president. I, too, have been asked to attend the event. So I'm off to Delhi "He stated this in Raipur.

Kharge easily defeated his opponent Shashi Tharoor in the election for the party's top post, becoming the first non-Gandhi to hold the position in 24 years.

In the presidential election on October 17, Kharge received 7,897 votes, while Tharoor garnered 1,072 votes.

Soon after his election triumph, Kharge stated that the party has provided an "example of strengthening the country's democracy by conducting organisational elections" at a time when the country's "democracy is under threat."

In a press conference following his triumph, Kharge stated that Congress has "continuously enhanced democracy" and preserved the Constitution over the country's 75-year existence.

"Now, when democracy is under attack, the Constitution is under attack, and every institution is under attack, Congress has demonstrated how to enhance the country's democracy by holding national organisational elections. I'd want to thank everyone involved in the election "He stated.

He also praised Tharoor and stated that they talked about how to move the party ahead. Tharoor had gone to Kharge's house to congratulate him on his triumph.

"I'd also like to congratulate my colleague Shashi Tharoor. We were running for office as representatives. He met with me and we talked about how to move the party forward "Kharge stated. In addition, Kharge will shortly travel to poll-bound states including Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
