    Digital Desk: Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, has stated that the rules on masks and COVID-appropriate behaviour will continue across the country. The decision came after a review meeting chaired by the minister on the coronavirus situation in the country and the ongoing vaccination drive on Tuesday.


    Mandaviya instructed administrators and officials to focus on the operative execution of the surveillance strategy and strengthen genome sequencing for early detection of variants. "He also called for accelerating the COVID-19 precaution dose of the eligible population on mission mode," said the health ministry.


    The meeting was attended by Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan, NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) director general Rajiv Bahl, chairperson of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) NK Arora and Department of Biotechnology secretary Rajesh S Gokhale.


    Maharashtra has recorded a 17.7 percent rise in coronavirus cases compared to last week, according to a bulletin shared by the health department. Moreover, a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant has been detected in some other parts of the country, including Kerala.


    As per reports from the health ministry, cumulative COVID vaccine doses completed in the country have crossed 219.33 crores. The majority of the adult population in the country has been injected with at least the first dose, the numbers have gone down among the younger population.
