Digital Desk: Delhi reported the first case of the Monkeypox virus on Sunday, reports said. The man reportedly doesn’t have any foreign travel history.
According to reports, the 31-year-old man has been admitted to Maulana Azad Medical College with a fever and skin lesions, the Health Ministry said.
This is the fourth case of monkeypox detected in India and the first without a history of travel abroad. More information is awaited.
In Kerala earlier this month, there were three cases of monkeypox reported. A man who had just come from the UAE tested positive, resulting in the first case being recorded in Kerala's Kollam on July 14. The second case was detected in a man who had just returned from Dubai. A Malappuram resident who came in the state on July 6 and began showing symptoms on July 13 was the third case, which was reported on July 22.
In view of the rising cases, it is noteworthy that the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday declared monkeypox a "global health emergency."
