    DISCOMS to benefit from PM Modi's distribution sector scheme of over Rs 3 lakh crore

    The reconfigured Distribution Sector scheme aims to improve DISCOMs' and power departments' operational efficiencies and financial sustainability.


    Digital Desk: On Saturday, July 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the updated Power Sector Distribution Sector Scheme via video conference. 


    On July 30 at 12:30 pm, the Prime Minister introduced the program as the last phase of "Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power @2047" the scheme, which will cost over Rs 3 lakh crore over five years from FY 2021–2022 to FY 2025–2026, aims to give DISCOMs financial support. It also aims to increase the DISCOMs' and electricity agencies' operational effectiveness and financial viability. As part of the program, he will also unveil the National Solar rooftop webpage.


    PM Modi also announced his intentions for the day on his Twitter account. "The power sector is celebrating a memorable day today. The Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme will start at 12:30 pm. 



    Additionally, the National Solar Rooftop gateway will become live. According to him, numerous green energy initiatives would either be introduced or have the first stone placed.


    The Distribution Sector Scheme would give the DISCOMs financial support to upgrade and reinforce their distribution infrastructure, emphasizing enhancing the dependability and quality of supply to final consumers. 


    By enhancing the operational effectiveness and financial viability of all state-sector DISCOMs and power departments, it also aims to reduce the AT&C (Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses to pan-India levels of 12 to 15 percent and the ACS-ARR (Average Cost of Supply-Average Revenue Realized) gap to zero by 2024–25.


    "Under the Prime Minister's direction, the government has launched several ground-breaking projects in the power industry. The sector has changed due to these changes, which emphasized providing everyone access to inexpensive power. According to a news statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the government's dedication to ensuring last-mile outreach was demonstrated by electrifying about 18,000 villages without access to power.


    Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate and lay the cornerstone for several NTPC green energy projects totaling more than Rs 5,200 crore. 


    Both the 92 MW Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project in Kerala and the 100 MW Ramagundam Floating Solar Project in Telangana will be formally opened by him. 


    The 735 MW Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan, the Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh, and the Kawas Green Hydrogen Blending with Natural Gas Project in Gujarat will all see him lay the cornerstones.


    The prime minister will also introduce a national solar rooftop portal, which will allow for online monitoring of the process of installing rooftop solar plants, from the time applications are submitted to the time that subsidies are released into the bank accounts of residential consumers following installation and inspection of the plant.
