Election Body's "Special Pens" To Be Used To Cast Votes In Presidential Election

On the topic of the environment, the EC stated that it has always aimed to make elections environment-friendly.

Digital Desk: Electors will be given "special" pens by the Election Commission to mark their votes on ballot papers in the presidential election, which is scheduled to be held on July 18.

Polling will take place in Parliament House as well as state legislatures. Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, as well as elected MLAs, are eligible to vote. On the other hand, Members of legislative councils and nominated MPs and MLAs cannot vote in the president's election.

"The Commission will provide special pens to mark the votes. When the ballot paper is handed over, the appointed official will hand the pen to the voters in the polling station,"  the Commission stated in a statement.

"Electors must mark their votes solely with the poll committee's provided pen and not with any other pen.  Voting using any other pen will result in the vote being invalidated at the time of counting," the EC added.

On the topic of the environment, the EC stated that it has always aimed to make elections environment-friendly.

As the election for the position of President of India is an indirect election, there is no traditional campaigning in the form of banners or placards.

"However, in light of the importance of this election, the Commission has directed the returning officer and assistant returning officers concerned to ensure the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials and to eliminate the use of prohibited plastic materials as per extant Government of India instructions," it stated.
