Digital Desk: An encounter broke out on Thursday between security forces and terrorists in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police confirmed. At present an encounter unfolds between security forces and terrorists according to Jammu & Kashmir Police. The status report for the ongoing operation will be made public after the operation ends.
In a separate development, the Indian Army's Romeo Force and the Special Operations Group (SOG) maintain continuous anti-terror operations in the Lasana dense forest area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir for their tenth consecutive day. Security forces initiated their search operations on April 15 after fighting terrorists in the area on April 14, which led to their decision to hunt for resisting militants.
The security forces performed intensified searches in this heavily forested area while keeping the entire area under military control. Romeo Force suffered an injury when their forces engaged in combat close to the National Highway, which links Poonch and Jammu near Lasana village.
Security measures have increased throughout the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch Highway (NH 144). Security forces currently conduct inspections on vehicles belonging to local residents while verifying their licenses. To reduce congestion on the roads, the traffic police force under Rajouri restricts vehicles that are fully loaded, according to officer Ahmed Din. The District Police and Army enforce continuous checkpoints in their communal security operations.
Police have increased their state of alertness after a terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam killed 26 civilian visitors on Tuesday. The deadly attack holds the position of being the deadliest occurrence in the region after the 2019 Pulwama bombing, which murdered 40 CRPF personnel. It also marks one of the most serious terror incidents in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
