Happy Krishna Janmashtami 2022: Check all the key details
The festival is widely observed throughout the nation since Krishna, also known as the "Blue God," was one of the most well-known and beloved avatars of the God of Preservation, who is believed to have lived on this planet around 5,000 years ago.

Digital Desk: Happy Janmashtami! It is one of the most important festivals in India and is called Krishna Janmashtami—or simply Janmashtami. According to Hinduism, Janmashtami is the celebration of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The festival is widely observed throughout the nation since Krishna, also known as the "Blue God," was one of the most well-known and beloved avatars of the God of Preservation, who is believed to have lived on this planet around 5,000 years ago.

In accordance with Drik Panchang, it's the 5,249th birthday of Lord Krishna in 2022. Since Krishna is believed to have been born around midnight, August 18 and 19 will be designated as the celebration dates this year. As a result, on August 19, the nishita puja time is between 12.03 and 12.47.

On Friday, August 19, 2022, Dahi Handi, a significant and joyful tradition celebrated by devotees all across the nation and the world, will take place.

A clay pot loaded with dahi, butter, or any other similar milk-based product is hung at a reachable height during this competitive event. People create a human pyramid and try to reach the pot and break it before the opposing team does, just like how young Krishna and his friends used to do it.

    Puja times

According to the Drik Panchang, the Ashtami Tithi starts from 9:20 p.m. on August 18 until 10:59 p.m. on August 19. The rohini nakshatra lasts from August 20 at 01.53 am until August 21 at 04:40 am.

People who observe a fast on the day of Janmashtami should eat a meal the day before, fast for the entire day, and then break their fast the next day when both the Rohini nakshatra and the Ashtami tithi have passed.

It should be noted that until the fast is broken, no grains are consumed during the Janmashtami fast. During Janmashtami, the Ekadashi fasting regulations should also be observed.

    The Significance of Janmashtami

On the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Shraavana of Bhadrapad, Krishna Janmashtami is observed (which overlaps with August or September of the Gregorian calendar). Particularly in Mathura and Vrindavan, it is seen.

The celebrations of the day involve fasting, devotional singing, dance dramas depicting Krishna's life, and other activities. Along with other states in India, it is also observed in West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala.

    What does history say?

According to Hindu scriptures, Krishna, the son of Devaki and Vasudeva, was born at Mathura at midnight on the eighth day of the Bhadrapada month. However, his maternal uncle, King Kansa, was putting his life in danger. Vasudeva, who was detained in a dungeon, carried the newborn in a basket after his birth all the way from there to Gokul, where Nanda and Yashoda raised him. This legend is celebrated in pictures, and on the day of Janmashtami, little idols are dressed in clothes and placed in cradles after being washed.
