Digital Desk: When the scheme was introduced on June 14, the
highest age limit was set at 21, but the government declared on Thursday a
two-year age relaxation for defence candidates as a one-time dispensation,
citing the fact that the procedure had been stopped for more than two years
because to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Officials familiar with the matter said on
Friday that the Indian Air Force will be the first service to recruit young men
under the Agnipath model for short-term entrance of soldiers into the military,
with the army and navy also finalising their recruitment calendars.
Air Leader Marshal VR Chaudhari, the chief of
the Indian Air Force, stated that the new model of selection will begin on June
24. This year, the armed forces intend to recruit 46,000 Agniveers between the
ages of 17 and 23 years.

limit was set at 21, but the government declared on Thursday a two-year age
relaxation for defence candidates as a one-time waiver because the process had

General Manoj Pande, the army's chief of staff, stated that
the army's first Agniveers will begin training at recruitment centres by the
end of the year. The army was beginning to experience the effects of a manpower
shortage brought on by Covid's recruitment freeze. In the personnel below
officer rank (PBOR) cadre, it is now short of roughly 125,000 soldiers. It is
authorised to have a force of 1.2 million soldiers.
