Digital Desk: India
is dressed to the nines in anticipation of her Independence Day on August 15.
However, it is not entirely clear if today is the 76th or the 75th Independence
Day. In fact, some people claim that it is the 74th.
To determine
which Independence Day it is precisely, math is required. Would India be
commemorating the 75th or the 76th anniversary of its freedom from British
control this year?
The "Azadi
Ka Amrit Mahotsav," which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
March 12, 2021, to honour and remember 75 years of freedom, began a 75-week
countdown to our anniversary of independence. Thus, on August 15, 2022, India
will commemorate its 76th Independence Day and complete 75 years of
independence.
India won its
arduous freedom from more than 200 years of British domination on August 15,
1947. Thus, India commemorated its first anniversary of independence on August
15, 1948, its tenth anniversary on August 15, 1957, its twentieth anniversary
in 1967, and its seventieth anniversary in 2017. In keeping with this, India
will commemorate 75 years of freedom from British control in 2022.
However,
from August 15, 1947, which would be regarded as the first, India will have
celebrated 76 Independence Days.
Along with India, Bahrain, North Korea, South Korea, and
Liechtenstein also commemorate their independence on August 15.
