Jailed pro-Khalistani leader Amrit Pal Singh’s candidature uncertain: Advocate Rajdeo Singh Khalsa

Digital Desk: Amritpal Singh, a jailed pro-Khalistan leader in Assam, wants to run as an independent candidate for Punjab's Khadoor Sahib constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.

Singh, the leader of the 'Waris Punjab De' group, was detained in April of last year after being charged under the National Security Act (NSA).

The pro-Khalistani group, Waris Punjab De chief Amrit Pal Singh's father, Tarsem Singh, uncle Sukhchain Singh, wife Kiran Deep Kaur, and other relatives reached Dibrugarh on Thursday. They were joined by Amarjit Singh, the father of another NSA detainee, Papal Preet Singh.

They aimed to meet with Amrit Pal Singh, currently held in Dibrugarh Central Jail, to discuss his potential independent candidature for the Lok Sabha elections in the Khadoor Sahib constituency of Punjab. However, it remains uncertain whether Amrit Pal Singh will contest the elections.

Due to the stringent regulations of the jail authorities, the family members could not engage in a thorough discussion with Amrit Pal Singh today, as informed by them. They expressed their intention to meet with the Dibrugarh District Commissioner tomorrow to address the uncooperative behaviour of the jail authorities.

Limited by time restrictions during their brief meeting, they were unable to delve deeply into the election matter, thus refraining from confirming the information shared by advocate Rajdeo Singh Khalsa. They plan to return in a week to have a more extensive discussion with Amrit Pal Singh.
