Journalist Navika Kumar Booked Over Nupur Sharma's Prophet Remarks Row: Report
Nupur Sharma had been suspended by the BJP on June 5 for her anti-Muslim statements.

Digital Desk: Times Now news anchor Navika Kumar has been named in a First Information Report (FIR) for reportedly aiming to outrage religious emotions, weeks after then-BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma made insulting statements against Prophet Muhammad on her broadcast.

According to reports, the FIR was filed after a Muslim cleric in Maharashtra filed a complaint. Sharma is also named in the FIR.

"We ask participants in our debates to exercise moderation and not participate in unparliamentary language against other panellists," the channel said earlier in response to Sharma's statements.

Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt News, uploaded a clip from the debate.

Sharma had been suspended by the BJP on June 5 for her anti-Muslim statements.

She also stated that she had received death threats as a result of her words. Kumar had gone to Sharma's defence at the time, saying, "Nobody has the authority to threaten another person. Nupur Sharma's death threats are intolerable. Debate is necessary in a mature democracy, but exceeding the line is not acceptable."

After a complaint was filed by Raza Academy, an organisation of Indian Sunni Muslims, Sharma was charged under Sections 295A (acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 505B IPC (inducing to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquilly).
