Digital Desk: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed recently that it had apprehended a most-wanted terrorist with a Rs 5 lakh reward for his suspected involvement in targeted killings in Punjab from IGI Airport here.
Kulwinderjit Singh, aka Khanpuria, had been linked to terrorist organisations such as the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), according to an official statement from the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
"Khanpuria was involved and wanted in various terrorist cases, including schemes to carry out targeted killings in Punjab," the agency stated. In the 1990s, he was also engaged in a bomb blast case in New Delhi's Connaught Place and grenade attacks in other states."
The NIA has issued a Rs 5 lakh cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the accused, who had been on the run since 2019.
"Investigation has established that Khanpuria is the major conspirator and mastermind behind the scheme to carry out terrorist activities in India by targeting establishments associated with the Dera Sacha Sauda, as well as police and security establishments," the NIA claimed.
"Throughout addition, he planned to target key BBMB officials with the overall goal of sowing panic in Punjab and across the country." He had also conducted reconnaissance on some of the targets," the report stated.
According to the NIA, the case was reportedly filed by Punjab Police and was later picked up by the anti-terror agency on June 27, 2019.
"Khanpuria, along with his handlers and collaborators in India and overseas in several South-East Asian nations, planned and conspired to carry out terrorist acts in India." He eventually managed to depart India. While abroad, he "first conspired with Harmeet, alias PhD, and now with Pakistan-based ISYF chief Lakhbir Singh Rode," according to the NIA.
Khanpuria was declared a proclaimed terrorist by a special NIA court in Punjab, and Interpol issued a Look Out Circular and a Red Corner Notice against him, according to the statement.
