Digital Desk: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has been summoned as a witness by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Uttar Pradesh illegal mining case tomorrow. The complaint concerns mining leases that were allegedly issued without following the e-tendering procedure. The investigation was ordered by the Allahabad High Court.
Akhilesh Yadav has been asked to appear before the federal agency on Thursday for questioning in Delhi, as per the notice issued by CBI under Section 160 of the CrPC. A police officer conducting an investigation may call witnesses under this section.
It is said that while Akhilesh Yadav was chief minister from 2012 to 2016, official employees permitted illicit mining and unlawfully extended licenses in defiance of the National Green Tribunal's mining ban.
The cops are accused of allowing mineral theft and extorting money from drivers and leaseholders.
In response to the Allahabad High Court's orders to look into the issue of illicit mining of minor minerals, the CBI launched seven preliminary inquiries in 2016.

It was claimed that Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the state police and former mining portfolio holder, had approved 14 leases, 13 of which were approved on February 17, 2013, in defiance of the e-tendering procedure.
According to the FIR, Akhilesh Yadav, the state's chief minister from 2012 to 2017, held the mining ministry from 2012 to 2013, therefore bringing his position under investigation.
According to the CBI FIR, other people were permitted to steal minor minerals, engage in illicit minor mineral excavation, and demand money from leaseholders and the drivers of the vehicles carrying the minor minerals.
Significantly, Fakhrul Hasan Chand, the spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party, refuted that Akhilesh Yadav had received a formal summons. He declared, "We have learned through the media that Akhilesh Yadav has been called by the CBI to testify, but Akhilesh Yadav has not been notified or given any information of this." The Samajwadi Party would seek legal advice as soon as it receives any such notice."
Chief of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP on Wednesday, saying that the party was scared of the INDIA bloc and was trying to split other parties. In the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday, dissident MLAs who cast cross-party votes for the BJP faced consequences, according to Yadav.
The BJP secured eight out of the ten seats up for grabs in the Rajya Sabha elections, while the SP managed to secure two seats. The election was held after the BJP fielded an eighth candidate, former RS MP Sanjay Seth, who eventually won when seven SP MLAs cross-voted.
