Digital Desk: The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill-2021 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, with Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav stating that development and environmental conservation can coexist and are not mutually exclusive.

After the House rejected several amendments proposed by opposition members, the bill was approved by voice vote.

The bill, which was examined by a parliamentary panel, aims to amend the primary act to improve the management of protected areas and insert an explanation to specify some permitted activities, such as the valid use of drinking and household water by local communities and the grazing or movement of livestock.

In response to a debate on the bill, Yadav said it was important to educate people about the need to avoid buying shawls and cosmetics that are made by killing wild animals.
