Digital Desk: The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Tahawwur Hussain Rana, is expected to be brought to India from the United States (US) 'shortly'. As per a PTI report, a team from India left for the US to complete all the formalities with US authorities to bring Rana.
As per sources, there is a "very high possibility" that he could be brought to India 'shortly' from the Metropolitan Detention Center of Los Angeles.
This development could be a major setback for Tahawwur Rana as he filed an 'Emergency Application For Stay Pending Litigation of Petition For Writ of Habeas Corpus' on February 27. However, his attempt to prevent the extradition process failed following the denial by the US Supreme Court.
Later, Rana renewed the application and redirected it to Chief Justice John Roberts. However, the top court denied the application again on Monday.
Tahawwur, a Canadian national of Pakistan origin, was linked to a Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the planners of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. The mass shootings and hostage crisis, which took place in November 2008, killed 175 people, including nine terrorists, with over 300 injured. The attack was carried out by 10 militants of a Pakistan-based Islamist militant organisation, Lashkar-e-Taiba, which lasted four days across Mumbai.
