Indian Navy Day: To pay tribute to the Act of Maritime Bravery and Innovation

Since 1972 this victory has been commemorated on the Navy Day on December 4…

Digital Desk: The Indian Navy as an organization dedicates 4th December every year as navy day in appreciation of its efforts towards providing security to the Indian maritime domain and its borders. This day honors tremendous courage, commitment, and the losses made by the Indian Navy’s members.

The day is culturally important because it marks the anniversary of the operation trident during the 1971 Indo–Pak war. On the 4th of December 1971, the Indian navy’s western fleet struck a devastating blow on Pakistan’s naval fleet at Karachi.

This operation dealt a huge blow to the Pakistan navy to the point of being incapacitated as this was a turning point of the war. Since 1972 this victory has been commemorated on the Navy Day on December 4.

Navy Day celebrations are spearheaded from Mumbai which is the destination of the Western Naval command. The day starts with a wreath-laying exercise to pay respect to the brave Navy fraternity and this is presided by Chief of Naval Staff. Exhibitions, seminars and the general public being taken through open house affairs in naval installations are among major public engagement campaigns meant to sensitize and recruit public participation.

The festival was first embraced on dates associated with the Royal Navy especially the 1st December and the 15th December before changing the focus to the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war. India celebrates Navy Day on 4th December 2024 and the theme celebrating this year is Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation. The main attraction is at the Blue Flag Beach in Puri where more than 24 ships in addition to 40 aircraft are on display that indicate the change in capacities of the navy and emphasis on autonomy.

Indian Navy Day is an awareness of the Indian Navy’s prowess, as well as a moment of pride that allows the general public to remember the strength that the Indian navy posses
