Digital Desk: Chetan Dutta, the demolition expert who will press the button that will demolish the Supertech Twin Towers in Sector 93A, Noida, on Sunday, stated that the mammoth explosion will be an "easy process."
He stated, "It's a straightforward process; we create electricity from the dynamo and then hit the button which will ignite the detonators in all shock tubes within 9 seconds," he said while explaining the details of the procedure that will bring down the twin towers.
"We'll be almost 50-70m away from the structure, there will be no danger, and we are very confident that the building will fall properly. "The blasting area is covered with four layers of iron mesh and two layers of blanket, so no rubble will fly by but dust may," he added.
The demolition will start on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
At 2.30 pm on Sunday, Supertech's illegal twin towers, which stand taller than the Qutub Minar, will become India's largest structures ever to be demolished in 9 seconds. Impact cushions have been designed to reduce vibration.
There would be about 35,000 cubic meters of rubble left over after the demolition of the 32-story Apex and the 29-story Ceyane, which would require at least three months to clean up.
The Supreme Court has approved the use of explosives to demolish the twin towers. The demolition was scheduled to begin on August 21, but the court granted the Noida Authority's motion and delayed it until August 28.
The twin towers will be demolished because of serious violations of building codes. The Supreme Court had ruled that it was the consequence of "nefarious collusion" between Supertech and the Noida Authority and ordered that the business demolish the building at its own expense under the guidance of the Noida Authority and an expert organization like the Central Building Research Institute.
The order had come on a batch of petitions filed by homebuyers for and against April 11, 2014, verdict of the Allahabad High Court, which had ordered the razing of the two buildings within four months and the refund of money to apartment buyers.
The Supreme Court has stated that the demolition date may be confirmed as August 28, with a "bandwidth of seven days" between August 29 and September 4 to provide for any slight delay due to technical issues or meteorological circumstances.
